On this first day of 2014, the sun is shining brightly, the air is still, and the thermometer is registering a very chilly -35°. Despite the temperature, I find this weather quite wonderful. Whether being warmed by the glow of a fire inside or by an uphill climb while snowshoeing, I can enjoy the pristine beauty all around me. When we are prepared and have the tools to keep us comfortable, we can enjoy the day regardless of what our mind might tell us. This preparation and these tools are our ability to let go of our attachment to things, be they physical, emotional or mental.
Nature is a good teacher for this. I have the good fortune to be able to spend a great deal of time in nature, and it there that I am so often guided by something that catches my eye and reminds me of lessons on how to live with love and peace. I plan on sharing these moments with you on my Facebook and Twitter pages over the next while.
